Goaltenders Eddie Giacomin and Gilles Villemure formed the backbone of the Rangers great run in 1971-72---a 109-point regular season (then a Blueshirts record) and a pair of thrilling playoff series wins before a six-game defeat at the hands of the Bruins in the 1972 Stanley Cup Finals.

Giacomin, whose retired No. 1 jersey hangs in the rafters at Madison Square Garden, recently chatted with Joe Tolleson about that memorable season.
