Though the Rangers dropped a 2-1 decision to the Bruins on Sunday night, and failed to clinch first place in the Eastern Conference, there was some good news that came from the game.
Just 4:33 into the first period Marian Gaborik scored his 40th goal of the season---on a breakaway against Tim Thomas---becoming just the third player to reach that special total in the NHL this season. It marked the third time in hia career that Gaborik reached the 40-goal plateau, and second time in three seasons he has done so with the Rangers.
"It's how he has played this year," head coach John Tortorella said of Gaborik after the game. "He has been consistent all year. Good for him. It's been a great year for him."
