Looking Back and Ahead: Marc Staal
The 2013-14 season was nearly as good as it could get for defenseman Marc Staal. After the last several seasons were defined by head and eye injuries, Staal was relatively healthy — a December head injury not withstanding.
The defenseman was his usual, steady self, making his money in the defensive zone while also chipping in with the odd goal here and there. He's a big, physical blueliner who is great with his stick and who possesses underrated speed for his size. His presence on the second pairing gives the Rangers one of the best top-four defensive units in the NHL, and that shouldn't change during this upcoming campaign.
Join Jim Cerny and Matt Calamia in looking back at Marc Staal's season, as well as what to expect coming up in just a few months once the 2014-15 campaign gets underway.
